Back in July 2016, an initiative called No More Ransom was announced by Europol, the Dutch Police, Kaspersky and Intel Security as a cooperative effort between law enforcement and private companies to fight against ransomware.
AnubisNetworks is proud to join respected organizations in this effort to help to spread the word about prevention against ransomware, and offer decryption tools to help victims to recover their files without paying the criminals. You can see the official announcement here.
With the addition of new partners, more than 32 decryption tools have been added to nomoreransom.org covering 20 different ransomware families. The site was also translated in several languages, including Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese and Russian with more to follow in order to assist victims all over the world.
Private sector and law enforcement organizations are stepping up efforts to fight cybercriminals who are using ransomware to deprive their victims of large amounts of money. However, awareness remains key to preventing ransomware from being successful. Some simple protection measures can prevent a lot of harm: always have a backup system in place so a ransomware infection can’t destroy your personal data forever; use robust antivirus software to protect your system; keep all the software on your computer up to date and monitor user privileges and behaviour, as any account can be compromised. Lastly, since phishing remains a large vector for ransomware attacks, organizations should implement strong e-mail security solutions.
